First Glimpse of my Daughter

I will never forget referral day. For those of you not used to adoption lingo, "referral day" is the day you finally find out who your new child is. After waiting months or years, you finally get to see her picture, find out where she is living, and how old she is. It is the pivotal day that you wait for and dream of for so long.

I was at my parents house when the call came from our adoption agency. My hands were shaking so much I could barely write down the precious information I was receiving about our new daughter. I had no clue where her province was. I had no clue what a good head circumference was. But I knew at long last the wait was over and I knew her picture was being emailed to me at that moment.

My parents were still on dial-up. So once I got into my email I tried to download the picture. It. took. forever. It slowly scanned down one line at a time. So, for a long time the only thing I could see of her was this spiky hair. So agonizing!

Once her eyes finally appeared, I totally lost it. There she was. My daughter. I will never forget that day.
